Position: Piano Teacher

Melanie began taking classical piano lessons at the age of 8 and continued playing into adulthood. In her intermediate and advanced years of learning, she pursued piano at the Bay Area Theatre and Voice Academy. There, she studied under the accomplished Russian pianist Laura Fultcher. She took three years of percussion studies from age 12 to establish a solid rhythmic foundation.
Due to her musical experience, Melanie performed with a jazz band for over two years. The ensemble covered classic rock hits with a special emphasis on incorporating jazz elements. Due to this experience, she incorporates fun songs into her teaching curriculum students want to learn.
While attending the University of Houston-Downtown, Melanie is majoring in English and minoring in Philosophy. Her focus is on teaching at the collegiate echelon. She believes in the real life benefits music has to offer, such as expanding attention spans, developing musical passion and knowledge, and evolving emotions in a productive and expressive manner. She has years of experience teaching students with alternative learning styles and special needs.
While her students would consider her a fun and exciting piano teacher, her students’ parents would describe her as a teacher that keeps lessons structured, students accountable, with a progressive teaching style. As a result, Melanie’s students excel in our biannual music recitals and continue to take lessons with the same passion she discovered for herself as a child.
Most importantly, Melanie is excited to share her love for music. Each lesson is customized to each student’s individual interests and learning style, making the joys of music fun through any genre the student wishes to pursue.
