Piano & Voice Lessons
Ages: 5 & up
Experience: +35 Years
Matt has been active in music composition, performance, and teaching children for over 35 years. Classically trained in piano and voice, Matt works to equip and encourage his students to strive for excellence and achieve their best. Matt has directed children’s choirs in both church and school settings with as many as 500 children and adults. Together with his wife, Elaine, he developed and brought basic musicianship, sight singing, and ear training to elementary aged students through a weekly after-school program called Music Academy.
Matt has a love for composing music and has written many songs that he has performed in church and songwriting competitions. He loves to see students discover and develop their talents leading to a passion for music. Children often times will begin music lessons because their parents require them to. Children will willingly participate in the lessons each week and then practice their assignments when they enjoy the lesson time and develop the desire to become a better musician. With this truth in mind, Matt strives to specifically craft lessons that are fun, exciting, and tailored to each student’s individual needs and interests. Practice time will become student driven and not parent prodded when he or she begins to see themselves as a musician and take personal responsibility for their growth and improvement. This attitude of self-motivation can spread into all areas of the child’s life.
Matt holds a Bachelors degree in Church Leadership and is an ordained minister serving as a Children’s Pastor for nearly 20 years. A retired Fire Captain/Paramedic, originally from the Bay Area in California, Matt relocated to Montgomery Texas in 2015 with his wife.
